I did finish this one though! In my last post I complained about my tendency to leave everything unfinished. But here it is, The Certainty of Insecurity.

the certainty of insecurity
I wish I could finish some actual art. I start many drawings. I have mountains of ideas piled up in my head. But I never finish anything. It's a very bad habit.

hands head
A work in progress! It's a little bit strange I know, it was an image that came to mind as I was falling asleep in my car one sunny day. I'm not sure what to do with it next; does he need legs? Should there be things in the background? What colour will it be??

sunny , sandy
I have been working on some actual doodles, I've just been too lazy to scan them. So in the meantime, here's some more MS Paint work.

fools among stars
Because I haven't posted in a few days, here's a drawing I did on MS Paint in under eight minutes, titled Fools Among Stars, and the song that was playing while I was making it.

toothpaste
I have no idea how this came about. I guess it's the kind of thing one creates in MS Paint after midnight. I've actually been making my own toothpaste for a couple of years now; I may or may not print this and stick it to my jar. Perhaps then my family members won't mistake it for a facial scrub.

ice cold
A doodle I made on the back of my tracking card at work. Since I have yet to be trained in many different areas, I have a lot of time on my hands to work away at something like this, especially when customers are scarce. My boss saw it and raved about it and showed everybody; that's a good feeling :)

whining eye
This is a little something I envisioned randomly when I fell backwards into a snowbank and closed my eyes. It started out in my sketchbook with pencil crayons but I decided it would be too difficult to create the gradient effect in the sky that way, so I decided to recreate the image digitally. I think it turned out pretty good, but I have to say I like the original eye guy a little better.

transferred to t-shirt
Remember this guy I came up with last week? He's now on a t-shirt, just like I said! I know, I actually did something I said I would do. Our scanner decided to work for once and I printed the design onto transfer paper after whitening all around the face and in some of the flowers. The shirt's too small for me unfortunately, otherwise I'd wear the shit out of it - I like that guy, you just can't tell what emotion is going on there. However, it fits my sister! I'll force her to promote me ;) I'm pleased with how it turned out; things definitely could have been worse.

bathing suit beth
I don't actually know a Beth. This is a really quick Paint drawing I did recently; I hesitated about sharing it because it's so horribly done - as you can see I left out any possible shading I could have done and the photos are so pixelated it's agitating. I wasn't even sure which hair colour I liked best so I ended up with both.
The snow is coming down pretty heavily; I'm shivering in a pile of blankets dreaming of bathing suits and the sweatier seasons.

hump day drawing
Whipped a little something up today! I don't really know where it came from or how to describe it, but I like him. I'm seriously thinking about printing this onto a t-shirt; what a perfect staple it would be to have strewn around the bedroom floor at the cottage all summer!

blizzard blues
Blustery blizzard going on outside right now. Here's a lame .gif I made a few days ago because the sun was out for once and so bright it was shining in my eyeballs and I was basically blind. Here are some journal doodles from the past couple of days as well. Excuse the excruciating bad quality of the photos.

MS Paint portraits
I finally found out how to download Microsoft Paint on my Mac! (Which means I never actually tried to, until now). Here are my first two Paint masterpieces ever (since the age of like, nine). I obviously don't want to spend too much time hunched over my laptop staring into a screen and slowly going insane from frustration, so I'm not sure how often I'll be whipping these things up. However, I do hope to continue making Paint art and maybe get better and, hopefully quicker at it. Enjoy :)

dull day drawings
Here's a collection of bad quality photos of some not-that-great quality drawings I did today with a Sharpie marker and pencil crayons. I think I'm going to start actually using my blog again. Maybe. I hope. But, you know how that goes.
I was lying in bed this morning half-asleep and saw this creature through a tunnel.
You know when you close your eyes and see blackness? It was almost like there was a tunnel through the blackness into another room, and this alien thing was peering back at me, looking a bit distraught. It freaked me out enough to get me out of bed; I drew it out and added feminine features.
Struggling to float out of my body under a layer of several blankets.
I imagined a giant hand over my bed before I went to sleep so that if the time came, I could reach up and grab it and be pulled out of my body without really having to think about it.
Sketch of a '70s inspired outfit; there's supposed to be a bag or something in her hand but I got lazy.
The contents of my bag.
- my student ID which is no longer relevant, my driver's license, and debit card
- a spare key in case I get locked out of my car
- a small collection of change
- a couple of bobby pins, a tampon, Christmas lip gloss, and a rectangular tube of lipstick
- a pencil sharpener
- a pouch with a fish on it that I keep my iPod & headphones in, which are also shown
- pink lipstick, a lighter that says wasting my YOUNG YEARS, apple hand cream + another bobby pin
- a smiley face sticker that doesn't stick anymore but I never throw it out for some reason
- a pack of gum with one piece left
- Nivea lip chap
- a hair elastic, an eraser, a green plastic case, a short pencil, and a gel pen
- a Value Village receipt and smushed cigarette package

"Meadow Of Fire"
Finished this one today. It looks pretty bright because of my camera's flash, I think, and yes there is a giant crease through the cardboard, but that's okay; I'll probably just end up tacking it to my wall anyway. It isn't my best work (I'm not sure what is), but I'm still learning. I call it "Meadow of Fire: A Photograph by Jonathan Hyde", because I based it completely off of someone else's work: the below photo. (I may have went overboard on the flowers).

neon nymphs
Yes, sometimes I just hunker down and spend the day colouring in colouring books. I'm not sure what brought me to invert the colours, but I thought it looked kind of cool. Illustrations by Scott Altmann.
